Website Design and Website Development Differences

Website design and website development are both processes that result in the creation of websites but they are not the same. Although often used interchangeably, the roles played by website designers and website developers are very different.

To give a better picture, a website consists of aspects that the user sees and aspects that the user does not see. The aspects that the user sees take place on the browser and they include aspects such as fonts, images, colours and layouts. The aspects that the user does not see take place on the back-end i.e. servers.

Website design mainly focuses on the aspects that the user can see. The only development aspect that is also included in the aspects that the user can see is called front end development. While website designers make use Photoshop, Illustrator, and Sketch to come up with designs, front end developers use coding languages like HTML, CSS, and Javascript to implement designs

As said before, website development refers to aspects that the website user does not see which take place on the server. These aspects involve what is called back-end development. Back end development ensures that databases and servers are working in harmony. The languages for back-end development include PhP and .Net. It is important to appreciate the fact that the front-end and the back-end of a functioning website are always communicating.
